Korfball

Korfball is a mixed-gender sport played between two teams of 8 (4 women and 4 men) on an indoor pitch. The objective is to score goals by throwing a ball to drop down through a netless basket (a korf) mounted on a 3.5 m pole, from any angle. Each team has four players in each of two zones, two women and two men, and they cannot switch zones during game play. Once two goals have been scored, the teams change zones, with attack players becoming defence players and vice-versa. The players can only defend players of the same sex.

The two disciplines, Beach and Indoor, are very similar, although there are some differences in the rules.

The main difference between traditional korfball and Beach korfball lies in the team size, the playing area and the number of baskets. While traditional korfball is played by eight players—four women and four men—on a large pitch with two baskets, Beach korfball is played on a smaller sand court measuring 20x20 metres, with just one basket in the centre and teams of four players—two women and two men.
