Hockey
Hockey is a widely played team ball game in which two teams attempt to hit a ball into the opponent’s goal using sticks. It is mainly played in two forms: field hockey (on artificial turf) and indoor hockey. The term ‘hockey’ probably derives from the English word ‘hook’ (‘hooked’, ‘curved’) or from the Old French ‘hoquet’ (‘shepherd’s crook’, i.e. a curved stick). Both explanations refer to the shape of the stick.
