Sport Climbing
Sport climbing has become one of the most popular spectator sports at The World Games; the agility and speed of ascent displayed by the world’s top athletes are truly impressive! Secured from above by an automatic belay system (auto-belay), the athletes climb a 15-metre-high vertical wall equipped with handholds and footholds.
Disciplines: Boulder, Speed
Boulder: Athletes are faced with a range of climbing problems on different angles of 4 m high walls, with safety mats below, where the holds vary in size, shape, and materials. Athletes must complete as many as possible of the ‘boulders’ with the lowest number of attempts within a set time.
Speed: There are two identical parallel routes on the wall for Single with two athletes competing simultaneously and four identical routes for four athletes in Single 4 and Relay. The aim in the Speed discipline is to be the fastest to reach the top of the 15 m wall. Competitors compete (race) against one another with the aim of the fastest times moving on to the next round from Qualification, and then by beating your opponents in the Finals rounds to secure a medal.
