Road to KA2029: TWG2029 Team: Gathering Insights, Strengthening Dialogue

Preparations for The World Games 2029 Karlsruhe are already well underway. In the first half of 2026, the TWG2029 team was on the move in Karlsruhe and across Europe — gaining practical event experience, building partnerships and sharpening the next steps in the planning process.

With just over two years to go until the Opening Ceremony on 19 July 2029, intensive work is already taking place in Karlsruhe to lay the foundations for The World Games 2029. In the first half of 2026, the TWG2029 team focused on gaining early insights into event operations, deepening connections across the city and the sporting community, and driving forward key topics for staging the Games.

Presence in Karlsruhe: being visible and starting conversations
At events such as the KSC Familientag, DAS FEST, and as a team at the Stadtwerke Karlsruhe Cup as part of the HafenKulturFest, the emphasis was on dialogue and creating the first visible impulses. Many conversations with local residents, clubs, institutions and potential partners already demonstrate the strong interest in The World Games 2029 Karlsruhe (19–29 July 2029).

Strengthening the regional network: involving key partners early
Another key focus was establishing and nurturing a strong regional network. Initial discussions with partners including the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Karlsruhe), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV) explored opportunities for cooperation and interfaces for the next phases of planning. Meetings were also held with hotels across the city to begin robust preparations for athlete accommodation at an early stage.

Learning internationally: taking away practical event experience
The Organising Committee was also present beyond Karlsruhe — at sporting events across Germany and Europe, experiencing organisation, operations and atmosphere first-hand. These included the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Die Finals 2026 in Hanover, the Special Olympics National Games, the INIT INDOOR MEETING, as well as regional dates such as the Bunten Jubel Spiele, the Sportgala and the German Lacrosse Championships. A particular highlight was the visit to the Olympic Winter Games Milano & Cortina.

Outlook
The TWG2029 team will continue its dialogue and presence formats in the months ahead. In the autumn, the team plans to launch a countdown to further build anticipation across the city.
