A special day for German sport: TWG2029 on the ground in Baden-Baden

At the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) selected Munich as Germany’s candidate to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. TWG2029 was there for this significant day for German sport.

On Saturday 26 September 2026, the eyes of the international sporting world turned to Baden-Baden. At an extraordinary general meeting, the DOSB decided that Munich should represent Germany in the international bidding process for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040 or 2044. The decision marks an important step towards a successful bid.

Major sporting events such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games and The World Games bring people together, create unforgettable experiences and give sport an international platform. They also show what can be achieved when sport, politics, business and society work towards a shared goal.

The TWG2029 team had many positive conversations in Baden-Baden, heard a range of perspectives and took away valuable impressions and plenty of positive momentum as preparations continue for Germany’s largest multisport event in 2029.

The World Games 2029 Karlsruhe are an important part of Germany’s journey towards hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games — and can give Munich’s bid a powerful boost. In July 2029, the world will see first-hand what Germany can offer as a host nation: international appeal, sporting diversity and the ability to stage a major event to the highest standards. TWG2029 will bring this ambition to life and send a strong signal in support of a possible award of the Games to Munich. Karlsruhe looks forward to welcoming athletes and fans from around the world in 2029.
