54th TRK Regional Conference highlights the wider impact of sport

The 54th meeting of the Regional Conference of the TechnologyRegion Karlsruhe (TRK) focused on the many ways in which sport benefits society and the region. The World Games 2029 were also presented as an opportunity for Karlsruhe.

Sport brings people together, strengthens volunteering and connects communities across social and geographical boundaries. This was the central message of the 54th meeting of the Regional Conference of the TechnologyRegion Karlsruhe, held at the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Frank Roth, President of the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Chair of the TRK Regional Conference, highlighted the unifying power of sport. In the face of demographic change, bureaucracy and declining levels of engagement, he stressed the importance of shared objectives and intelligent solutions.

Martin Wacker and Pascal Rastetter, CFO of TWG2029, presented The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe. The international sporting event would offer much more than eleven days of elite sport, creating opportunities for international visibility, business and tourism, while also involving clubs, schools, companies and civil society.

The subsequent discussion highlighted the role of sports clubs as places for social interaction, integration, inclusion and community cohesion. At the same time, clubs increasingly need professional structures to support volunteers and manage their wide range of responsibilities. The conference therefore demonstrated the value of sport for the entire region – socially, economically and in terms of tourism.
